Donny’s was born in 1962 and raised in Missoula, Montana, the state known as “Big Sky Country”. Bordering Canada and the Rockies, Montana is a ranching state with almost as many cattle as people and also boasts the “Little Bighorn Battlefield”. With native Americans providing the longest history, Montana has a diverse and interesting culture.
Montana has a rich heritage in folk and country music and Montana country musicians include Rob Quist, Doug Adams and The Bridger Creek Boys. Living the outdoor life and listening to these and other local musicians, Donny had the perfect background to become a country music legend.
His early years were spent working at his families ranch when he wasn’t at school, learning the local folk and country songs sung by the various farm hands. He soon started learning to play guitar and joining in with songs around the fire after a busy day working with the cattle.
As he grew older Donny spent his time hanging around the bars listening to local musicians with his steel string guitar never far from his grasp. His favourite bar is Stockmans on West Front Street. Sawdust on the floor, a gallery around the bar and the slogan “Liqueur up-front, poker in the rear” were an immediate draw for Donny and beer and music feature in his life in equal measure.
Please note: Donny Douglas is a fictional character but the music and other content is real.
